Keep reading for the full 5!

#1 Avoid the Sun

One of the best reasons to opt for Botox® in the winter is the fact that Tip #1 is already taken care of!

During the winter months, people are less likely to have prolonged sun exposure and more likely to stay indoors. Too much sun exposure can cause redness and irritation at the injection site. And remember, whether indoors or outdoors, it’s important to wear an SPF of at least 50 or higher!

#2 Keep Body Temp Low

Again, Tip #2 is generally a non-issue if you live in a climate that has colder winter weather. However, this also means avoiding saunas and or heavy workouts that may cause you to break a sweat.

Higher body temps and sweat can cause irritation and bruising due to a rise in blood pressure. You can generally go back to your normal workout routines within a few days following treatment.

#3 Apply Cold Compresses

Immediately following your Botox® treatment, you may choose to use cold compresses or ice packs for the first few hours.

These help to reduce swelling and any risk of bruising. Make sure to avoid applying ice directly to the skin and opt to wrap it in a towel instead. If swelling and bruising do occur, they are of no real concern and should subside within a week at most.

#4 Wait to Use Actives

Because your skin will be sensitive in the days after Botox® Cosmetic injections, it’s best to avoid skincare products that contain active ingredients.

Examples of products with active ingredients include Vitamin C, Retinol, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, and Salicylic Acid.

#5 Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!

One of the best things you can do to maintain your Botox® results is to keep your skin moisturized!

Opt for a thick, rich moisturizer that acts as a barrier to the skin and protects it from the dry air. Choosing a sunscreen that doubles as a moisturizer is a great option as well!
